If you are thinking about suicide or self-harm
If you are in danger right now, or you have already hurt yourself, please go to the nearest hospital emergency department or ask someone to take you. Do not wait for an appointment.
Call someone now
If you are with someone who is in danger
- Stay with them. Do not leave them on their own, even for a short while.
- Move what could be used to cause harm out of reach, quietly and without making it a confrontation. Medicines, sharp things, pesticide, rope, keys.
- Ask directly whether they are thinking about ending their life. Asking does not put the idea in anybody's head. It is one of the few things that reliably helps.
- Listen without arguing them out of it, and without promising to keep it secret.
- Take them to the nearest emergency department, or call Tele-MANAS together.
If the danger has passed
Thoughts like these are far more common than people are willing to say out loud, and they are treatable. They are a sign of how much you are carrying, not a verdict on who you are. Almost nobody gets through this alone, and almost nobody has to.
When you feel able to, it is worth talking to someone properly. You can book a consultation whenever you are ready, or call the clinic during the day and we will find you a time.
